Smartphones and Head Mounted Displays
The best HTML Stereo Viewer mode to use on Smartphones or Head Mounted Displays is Side-by-Side (SBS).
If you are using the HTML5 Stereo Viewer on a Smartphone, it is best used in Landscape mode mounted in a suitable 3D or Virtual Reality Headset/Viewer. To operate all of the menu functions you may need to rotate your device to and from portrait mode. There are numerous 3D or Virtual Reality Headsets/Viewers on the market that will suit most modern smartphones with the simplest being any of the 'google cardboard' types. The London Stereoscopic Company (Brian May from Queen fame) sells the 'OWL Virtual Reality Kit'
You can use the HTML5 Stereo Viewer on a Head Mounted Displays that are able to take input from an external source. Examples of such devices are the Goovis G3 Max which can act as a secondary display.
Computer monitors, Laptops and Tablet devices
If you are using the HTML5 Stereo Viewer on a Computer monitor, Laptop or Tablet device it is best used in Landscape mode. The stereoscopic format that your screen/monitor can intrinsically support will determine your best viewing option.
On monitors, laptops or tablets with no intrinsic stereoscopic display format support and you do not have any stereoscopic glasses, your best option is a 3D mirror stereoscope that supports viewing SBS photographs.
3D mirror stereoscopes are becoming less common and you may have to resort to free-viewing using the parallel or cross-viewing approach. The LR/RL option on the HTML5 Stereo Viewer supports either of these.
The three Anaglyph options supported on the HTML5 Stereo Viewer (Dubois, Colour and Grey) require the use of Red-Cyan glasses. Anaglyph stereograms are much easier to view than either parallel or crossed-viewed SBS stereograms but come without the bright and accurate colour rendering of free-viewing.
If you have a display that supports passive 3D viewing using Circular Polarised glasses, then the appropriate HTML Stereo Viewer mode to use is Column Interlaced (H_Int.)
If you have a display that supports lenticular 3D viewing (glasses free), then the appropriate HTML Stereo Viewer mode to use is Row Interlaced (3DLCD)
If you have created your own stereogram you can use this online viewer to view your stereograms using any of the above formats. You just use the options available under the file menu to select the stereogram you want to view from your device. If you use this option, you can use the Reset option to return back to viewing the online photographs.
Your selected stereo viewing option is retained for the duration of your current browser session.
